Gaza – Food aid for war victims

Project partnersSOS World from Belgium and Shepherd Society from Palestine

Project grant WEA Partnership: 10.000 €

With financial support from SOS World in Belgium, WEA Partnership, together with our partner organization Shepherd Society from Bethlehem, provided food for victims of the Gaza War. The project funds were transferred to Gaza via secure channels through the Orthodox Patriarchate in Jerusalem, where they were used to purchase food locally. This food was then distributed humanitarianly in the southern Gaza Strip.

The aid packages contained essential foodstuffs such as flour, sugar, baby formula, and cooking oil. Distribution was handled by the St. Porphyry Orthodox Church, which at one point sheltered 470 people seeking refuge during the war. This number has since dropped to 320, as many have been able to flee to other countries. This also represents a further decline in the already small Christian community in Gaza.

The destruction in Gaza is so extensive that the majority of the population does not believe reconstruction is possible. Regardless of religious affiliation, all those in need who had found refuge in or near the church received urgently needed food.

The project manager from Shepherd Society reported that cooperation with the churches in Gaza has continued since the beginning of the war and that the provision of food and medicine is the most urgent need of the affected people.
