Project grant WEA Partnership: 21.218 €
In 2024, as part of its advocacy work at the United Nations, the WEA Partnership advocated for persecuted Christians in several urgent human rights cases.
One focus was on Pakistan, where anti-blasphemy laws are repeatedly used against Christians. Following serious attacks on churches and homes in August 2023, the WEA supported the Evangelical Alliance in Pakistan through diplomatic mediation. In May 2024, our UN representative in Geneva, Gaetan Roy, initiated a dialogue meeting in Islamabad between leading Muslim and Christian representatives. In addition, regular discussions took place at the Pakistani UN mission in Geneva to prepare joint measures against religious extremism. Concrete actions are planned for 2025.
In another case, at the request of Open Doors, WEA supported a Pakistani Christian family in talks with the UNHCR in Nepal to obtain protection and recognition of their refugee status. Further coordination with the relevant authorities is ongoing.
Furthermore, WEA was diplomatically active in several countries in 2024, including Algeria, Cuba, Nepal, Syria, Gambia, and in the Middle East. Its advocacy work encompassed numerous discussions and networking meetings with UN diplomats and political decision-makers at the German and European levels.
